The Local Area

The coastal gem of the Exmoor National Park, Minehead is a welcoming town with a wide sandy beach, the Links golf course to the east and ancient harbour with fishing and pleasure boats sheltered under the towering wooded North hill. From its start on the esplanade, the South West Coastal Path heads through the woods to glorious open moorland, home to Exmoor Ponies and herds of Red deer or head to villages full of character such as Selworthy and Bossington.

Dunster and its medieval castle is well worth a visit run by the National trust which has many other properties to explore nearby. Take a nostalgic journey on The West Somerset steam Train along the coast to Watchet then on past the Quantock Hills to Bishops Lydeard or take the Open Top Bus over Exmoor to Lynton and Lynmouth via Porlock.

During the summer the famous pleasure steamers Waverley and Balmoral offer day trips along the Somerset/North Devon coast and to Lundy Island.
